While the Olympics have bestowed medals to the world’s top athletes the past week, the 2010 Apex Awards were giving out medals of their own Thursday evening to honor the best of the best in digital signage. AlivePromo, facing stiff competition in the Public Spaces category, brought home the silver medal for its work in the IDS Center, Minneapolis’ most iconic downtown skyscraper.

While the number of entries into the competition wasn’t released by the Digital Signage Expo, who ran the awards and conducted the ceremony, Chris Gibbs, president of Exponation LLC commented that “we received an extraordinary number of entries for both the Apex and Content Awards for 2010.”

The IDS Center digital signage project features a two-story interactive kiosk visible from both street and skyway levels in the famous Crystal Court, where major cultural events are often held. The kiosk has seven 65″ LCD screens, including three interactive screens with community event info, weather, traffic, maps, building history info, and more.

In addition to the kiosk, AlivePromo also installed four display directories in the tower elevator lobby. The IDS Center building directories have two stacked 65″ LCD screens.
